GHCS 102: INTRODUCTION TO GLOBAL HEALTH
This course satisfies GER area VI History, Society, Cultures (HSC). Prerequisite to GHCS 300.

Topics, Goals and Methods
This introductory core course to the Global Health, Culture and Society minor introduces students to the different disciplines within public health, basic concepts of population health and epidemiology, the history of epidemiologic transitions, the history and scope of international health programs, the primary health issues in developing and developed countries, social determinants of health, future challenges to global health improvements, and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding health issues.

GHCS 300: CORE ISSUES IN GLOBAL HEALTH
This course satisfies GER area VI History, Society, Cultures (HSC). When listed with a “W” this course fulfills the GER Continuing Writing Requirement.

Topics, Goals and Methods
This junior/senior seminar is the core capstone course for the Global Health, Culture and Society Minor. The course uses a disease-specific case study approach to demonstrate how health problems are best understood from multiple viewpoints: historical, biological, political, economic, sociocultural and experiential.
