The Trevor E. Stokol Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research is awarded to exceptional anthropology undergraduates who complete a senior thesis in biological anthropology. The award is named for an outstanding graduate of the Department of Anthropology who died tragically while fulfilling his dream of climbing Mount Everest. George Armelagos, Goodrich C. White Professor and Chair of Anthropology, was recently awarded both the American Anthropological Association 2008 Franz Boas Award for Exemplary Service to Anthropology and the American Association of Physical Anthropologists 2008 Charles R. Darwin Lifetime Achievement Award. Professor Armelagos and Professor Peter Brown sat down in January 2009 to discuss the four-field approach, class with Leslie White, football at Michigan, and Emory Anthropology.

Five New Faculty Members have joined the Department of Anthropology in recent years. David Nugent, Michael Peletz, Craig Hadley, Peter Little, and Dietrich Stout continue the department's tradition of scholarly excellence.

Brown Bag Lunch SeriesThe Anthropology Department started the Brown Bag Lunch Series in Fall 2008. Since Fall 2008, the department has hosted eight lunch sessions, and a graduate student panel event for undergraduates interested in Anthropology.
